1- Never wake up early. Keep stretching and turning in bed until you get too
hungry to continue dozing. If there are no bedbugs. Why hurry to get up?

2- Never plan how to spend your money. Whenever you get money, start
spending it right away and when it is finished, try to count and recall how
you spent it.

3- Don't think of saving until you have real big money. How can you save
when you earn so little? Those telling you to save are not sympathetic to
your burning needs.

4- Don't engage in activities usually reserved for the "uneducated". How can
you ? A graduate? Engage in petty trade or home production? That is for
people who never went to school.

5- Don't think of starting a business until an angel comes from heaven and
gives you capital. How do they expect you to invest before you get millions
of shillings? Even though half of the businesses in your town were started
with a few thousand shillings, you as a smart person can only start with
millions.

6- Complain about every thing except your own attitude; Blame the system,
employers, the government and the banks that refuse to lend you money. They
are all bad and do not want you to get rich.

7- Spend more than you earn. To achieve this, buy consumer products on
credit and borrow from friends and employers.

8- Compete in dressing. Make sure you wear the latest clothes among all the
members in call centre. Whenever your neighbor buys a new phone, get one
that is more expensive.

9- Get yourself a nice second hand car that costs more than three times your
gross monthly pay. That will surely keep you in debt long enough to hinder
the implementation of any bad plans that could make you accumulate capital.

10- Give your children everything they ask for since you are such a loving
parent. They should not struggle for anything because you do not want them
to suffer.

That way, they will grow up lazy and hence poor enough to ensure
they cannot help you in your old age.

If you diligently implement these 10 great rules, you will not fail to
invite poverty in great measure to your homestead. That way, all important leaders, will spend lots of hours thinking about you, planning how to upliftyour daily expenses..

Health fears: Scientists say even one sausage a day can raise the risk of developing pancreatic cancer by nearly 20 per cent

Eating one sausage a day or two rashers of bacon raises the risk of pancreatic cancer by a fifth, according to research.
Scientists have found that even relatively small amounts of processed meat increase the chance of developing this deadly illness.
Pancreatic cancer is called ‘the silent killer’ because it often does not produce symptoms in early stages.

Even when it does, the symptoms are often vague – such as back pain, loss of appetite and weight loss.
By the time the disease is diagnosed it is often too late and, because of this, it has one of the worst survival rates of all cancers and only 3 per cent of patients live beyond five years.

Little is known about its causes other than that smoking, excess alcohol and being overweight all seem to contribute.

An exciting collaboration between famous dj and producer Born To Funk from The Netherlands and Tanzanian superstar Mzungu Kichaa. The two met last year while performing at the Sauti Za Busara festival in Zanzibar and decided to join forces, combining swahili lyrics and east african bongo-flavour with west european dance music.

The result is a hi energy single called 'Oya Oya', a song that tells a vivid story about coming home and 'being back in the game' after roaming the serengeti with the maasai.
Some info on the artists:
Mzungu Kichaa means ‘the crazy white man’. A name Espen Sorensen picked up from the Tanzanian music scene; crazy because the Danish born singer flows in fluent Kiswahili.

Despite his Danish background Mzungu Kichaa is praised, accepted and recognised as one of the pioneers of the powerful youth music of East Africa, Bongo Flava.

Kichaa’s interest for African music started at the early age of six, when his family moved to Zambia. He would soon learn to play traditional Tonga drums with his friends at local weddings.

His enthusiasm for learning local music traditions gradually transformed his life story to one that does not lend itself to easy conclusions. He strongly believes music is the key to build bridges between cultures and people, and has managed to live up to this belief through his own complex identity and musical voyage.

The artist’s unique guitar and clean vocals coupled with the upbeat sound of his Tanzanian band Bongo Beat brought new life to the Sauti za Busara Music Festival in February 2010.

Alikaa pale kwa muda sana ilikuwa bado jioni bado kapumzika hatimae akapitiwa na usingizi, hakuweza kujizuia na sasa ni saa nne usiku bado kalala, saa sita usiku denis anashtuka, aliposhtuka alikuta kundi la watu wakiwa pembeni yake,denis alisema
“mnataka nini ondokeni kwangu”

Huu ni ujinga huku wakilisogelea lile shimo, denis alihofu sana kwani alijua uhai wake utaishia palepale kwa kuwa shimo lilizungukwa na majani mengi na ilikuwa ni usiku ilikuwa sio rahisi kujuwa shimo lile kulikuwa namtu walijuwa wameshamkosa na wakaondoka zao; denis ndani ya shimoalimshukuru Mungu.

“Nashukuru, eee…! Mungu nimeamini Mungu hamtupi mja wake”. Alivuta pumzi na kuishusha kwa kutetemeka, hii ni hofu aliyokuwa nayo kwani hakuamini kama amenusurika …….alisema tena,

Kunyanyua shingo yake kwa mbali anaona mwanga pia alijiuliza “Kile ni nini?” aliendelea kusema;

“Hapana kwa kuwa kunakaribia kupambazuka ngoja nione kuna nini”.

Hivyo alilala palepale na ilikuwa ni sehemu ya mlima, hivyo ule mwanga aliuona kwa chini huku yeye akiwa juu ya huo mlima. Alilala pale kwa muda na hatimaye kunapambazuka huku akisikia kelele za watu, na hizi ni kelele za watoto bila shaka wanancheza huku watu wengine wakiendelea na majukumu yao.

Denisi anageuza shingo yake na kuilekeza upande huo, bila shaka denisi anafurahi sana kukiona kijiji kikubwa tena chenye watu wengi, kwa mbali anamuona mzee mmoja akivuta tumbaku na hapo denisi anapata akili na kujisemea,
“Ahsante mungu kwa kunifikisha hapa, naamini patanifaa, aliendelea tena kusema,
“Naamini eeh Mungu, nioneshe ndugu yangu”.

“Mh! Hapana shaka hawa ni maaskari” nilijisemea kimoyomoyo na waliniuliza….
“Wewe ni nani na unataka nini?”

“Mimi naitwa Denis na sipo hapa kwa ubaya” alijibu na kusema tena
“Nimetokea mbali sana na ninaomba hifadhi yenu”
“sisi hatuwezi kukupa hifadhi labda twende kwa malkia wetu”, walimchukua na kumpeleka hadi kwa malkia wao.

“Jambo, kwani kuna nini asubuhi yote hii?”
“Malkia wetu kuna mtu nimekuletea huyu mgeni katika himaya yako” …..

Ndipo nilipofukuzwa shule na kurudi nyumbani wakati huo tulikuwa tukiishi na babu yako yaani baba yangu mimi, nilikaa na mimba ile hadi muda wa kujifungua ulipofika na hata baba yako sikumtaja sababu mila na destuli za hapo kijijini zilikuwa haziluhusu kufanya mambo kama hayo tungali bado wadogo kwani ningemtaja tu! basi angeuwawa,”kabla hajamaliza Denis alimuuliza mama yake, “kwa hiyo mama! Baba yuko wapi maana nimekuwa nikikuona wewe tu:”
“Bado sijamaliza, mama alimjibu denis

Hivyo nilijifungua salama palepale kijijini ,babu yako ndiyo mlezi na ulipofikia umri wa mwaka mmoja hali yako ilidhoofika sana kwani mzimu ulisha jua hivyo uliumwa sana na hata usiku hukulala ilikua saa saba usiku ulizidiwa sana paka tukakatatamaa tulidhani asubuhi hautaiona, tulihisi ungefaliki, ndipo juhudi za kumtafuta mchungaji aje kukuombea tulizianza na tukafanikiwa kumpata na alifika na kufanya hivyo nashukuru Mungu ulipata nafuu.

Lakini kazi ya kwenda kwenye mzimu ilibaki palepale kwani tulisha jua kuwa tumekiuka mila na desturi kijijini hapo ilitupasatuelekee huko na mizimu ilitupokea na kutusamehe hapo ndipo ilipokuwa salama yako hivyo uliwezakupona kabisa na tulirudi nyumbani salama muda ulizidi kwenda baadae ilipokuja kugundulika kwa baba yako ndipo viongozi walimfukuza na kumtupia porini.

Sikuweza kumuacha kabisa ndipo tulipotoroka nae na ndiyo maana mpaka leo tupo porini lakini haikuishia hapo baba yako alipooza ghafla na alishindwa kufanya kazi hivyo nilikuwa na majukumu ya kuwalea wote wawili .

Ukiwa na miaka miwili (2) baba yako alitutoka hukuwa na ufahamu hivyo nililazimika kuwalea mwenyewe na kaburi unaloliona hapo hilo ndilo kaburi la baba yako, niliamua kumzika hapa hapa nyumbani.

Basi waliendelea na shughuli zao huku Denis akichanja kuni na mama akiandaa chakula cha mchana. Walikuwa na desturi ya kula mara mbili tu, hii ni kutokana na uhaba wa chakula zaidi, walikuwa wakishindia matunda.

Alimaliza na kupata chakula. Muda ulipita jioni inaingia hatimaye giza nalo linaingia hii ikiashiria kuwa usiku nao unaingia hivyo walianza kujiandaa na kuweza kulala kwani walichoka sana.

Ni usiku, Denis katika njozi anaota,kuwa kuna mzimu unamtokea na unamwambia kuwa aondoke eneo hilo na aende kusikojulikana alistuka toka usingizini.

“Oh! Mungu wangu ndoto gani hizi”moyoni alijisemea lakini kwa mbali alisikia sauti ya mama yake ikimuita.
“De…de…..denis mwanangu” ikionesha kuwa amezidiwa”
“Naam …mama” bila kuchelewa aliingia chumbani kwa mama yake na kukuta mama yake amezidiwa sana,

“Vipi mama” kwa mshangao!
“Denis mwanangu hata sijisikii vizuri”
“Kwanini mama, mbona ghafla hivyo?”
“Naona maisha yangu yapo mikononi mwa Mwenyezi Mungu hivyo sina budi kukuaga”.

“Hapana mama usitamke maneno hayo, yananiumiza sana”.
“Naomba unisikilize mwanangu japo ni dhambi kumficha mtu ukweli, lakini naamini kwa Mungu hii ni dhambi nyepesi, kabla sijakuzaa wewe alitangulia dada yako, na hivyo hatukuwa naye kwani alipotea kwa mazingira ya kutatanisha na sielewi yuko wapi”

“Kwahiyo mama mbona hukunieleza toka mwanzo”?
“Naomba unisamehe mwanangu najua kuwa nilifanya makosa”
Denis aliuliza, “inamaana haieleweki aliko na walahakurudi tena”?
“Ndio, na ……nanao ..”

“Mama, …! Mama, ……! Tafadhali usiniache” alisikika akisema denis.
“ Hali ni mbaya mwanangu naomba umtafute dada yako”
“Sasa mamanitamtafutia wapi, sisi tuko porini hivi hakuna hata nyumba”
Mama alisema, “fungua hiyo kanga na uchukue hilo karatasi”.
Denis bila kuchelewa alifanya hivyo.
“Ndiyo mama, hii hapa ninayo”.

“Hiyo karatasi ifungue” Denis bila kuchelewa alifungua.
“Mwanangu najua huwezi kusoma, lakini yaliyoandikwa humo ni majina ya baba yako na dada yako” aliendelea kusema …….
“Baba yako alikuwa akiitwa Daniel Malingumu na dada yako ni Pendo”
“Sa…sas..sasa mama mbona sijajua bado” denis alisema.

Mama huku akizidi kutetemeka na kurusharusha miguu.
“si…sin…sina cha kusema naona malaika wanakuja”akizidi kusema
“Dee…denis”huku akikohoa denis mwanamgu naomba mtafute dada yako”
“sawa mama nitafanya hivyo:” lakini sijui nitampataje kwani….”kabla hajamalizia kusema.

Mama…..!mama…..!” Denis aliiita kwasauti ya unyonge na baadae akagundua kuwa mama yake hayupo duniani alikuwa ameshafariki alilia sana denis na kuona kuwa ni mpweke hivyo hana msaada mwingine tena.

Yapata saa tisa usiku huku kukikaribia kukucha alianza maandalizi ya mazishi ilimbidi achimbe kaburi la kumhifadhi mama yake usiku huohuo nakubaki amekaa chini karibu na makaburi hayo mawili ya wazazi wake huku akizidi kulia kwa uchungu.

Sasa kunakaribia kupambazuka huku denis akikumbuka ile ndoto yake iliyomuamulu aondoke eneo hilo.,

******Nimeshtushwa sana na taarifa za kupandishwa kwa posho za vikao kwa Wabunge. Nimeshtushwa zaidi kwamba Posho hizi zimeanza kulipwa katika mkutano wa Bunge uliopita kabla hata Rais hajaamua maana maslahi yote ya Wabunge huamuliwa na Rais Baada ya kupokea mapendekezo ya Bunge kupitia Tume ya Bunge.

Wabunge wote watambue kwamba kuamua kujipandishia posho zao bila kuzingatia Hali ya maisha ya mwananchi wa kawaida ni usaliti usio na mfano. Mbunge yeyote ambaye anabariki Jambo hili au anaishi hewani haoni tabunza wananchi au ni mwizi tu na anaona Ubunge ni Kama nafasi ya kujitajirisha binafsi.

Kwa Wabunge wa Chadema, wajue uamuzi kuhusu posho ni uamuzi wa chama na ni uamuzi wa kisera. Mbunge yeyote wa Chadema anayepokea posho za vikao anakwenda kinyume na maamuzi ya sera za chama tulizoahidi wananchi wakati wa uchaguzi. Nimemwomba Katibu Mkuu wa chama kuitisha kikao maalumu cha Kamati Kuu ya chama kujadili suala hili.

Toka tarehe 8 juni mwaka 2011 nilikataa kupokea posho za vikao. Popote ninapohudhuria vikao huomba Risiti ya fedha ninazokataa. Baadhi ya Wabunge Kama Januari Makamba wamekataa posho na hata kwenye semina ya kamati ya nishati alikataa na tumeona kwenye vyombo vya habari jina lake likiwa limekatwa ilhali viongozi wakubwa kabisa wamechukua posho. Nampongeza kijana mwenzangu kwa uzalendo huu. Nawataka wabunge wengine wenye Moyo wa dhati kukataa sio tu ongezeko hili la posho Bali posho yote ya vikao. Kwa nini mbunge akubali kulipwa kwa kukaa?

Tazama nchi hii, juzi serikali ilipokea Msaada wa tshs 20bn kwa ajili ya Sensa ya mwakani wakati wabunge wanalipwa 28bn Kama posho za kukaa tu.

Tanzania inaagiza gesi ya matumizi ya nyumbani kutoka nje kwa kutumia mamilioni ya dola za kimarekani. Kuwanda cha kutengeneza LPG kinagharimu tshs 35bn tu, Wabunge peek Yao kwa mwaka wanatumia 28bn kwa posho za kukaa tu achilia mbali mishahara na marupurupu mengine.

Why Tanzanians are so poor, living on less than an EU cow

Tanzania has been ‘Independent’ from foreign rule for nearly half-a-century, under home-grown leaders. However, the country isn’t poor... It’s home to the third largest livestock herds in Africa – and the continent’s fourth-largest producer of gold, currently selling at around $1,700 an ounce!

It has fabulous natural wealth: assorted minerals; natural gas (with potential for petroleum); water bodies; arable land; marine and forestry products...

Other comparative advantages include political stability (so far); internal security (so far); international goodwill within the comity of nations (so far, touch wood!); a docile population, and landlocked neighbouring states – bestowing upon the country’s entry/exit points entrepot status in terms of international/regional trade and other trafficking. Oh; there’s a lot more of such positives for Tanzania.

All that notwithstanding, however, Tanzanians remain abjectly poor, with 36 per cent of them living under the poverty line of two US dollars a day: standard allocation for a cow in the EU and Japan!

Some of our otherwise exalted leaders have been quoted abroad as saying they don’t know why Tanzanians are so poor – along with another twenty or so of the world’s poorest national communities!

The answer that readily comes to the mind of an honest observer is that Tanzanians are wallowing in poverty (and preventable/curable diseases) today simply because the best brains aren’t in Govt. and related institutions.

There’s a rider to that: if, indeed, the best, practical brains are in public positions of authority as development planners and decision makers, then they’re not fully dedicated and truly committed to the welfare of their country and its people! I’ve said this before; I’m saying it now – and I’ll say it again and again until those who still don’t know why Tanzanians are so poor will have got the message loud and clear!

Take, for example, the views of a highly successful private sector entrepreneur in Tanzania (and abroad, no doubt), Ali Mufuruki. The man’s views came out in the Adam Simbeye Tv programme ‘This Week in Perspective’ aired on November 3 this year. [Fortunately, an extract thereof was published in ‘The Citizen’ on November 11, 2011 under the headline ‘Tanzania shilling in deep trouble: here’s what we can do to save it.’

[I don’t know how the paper accessed the views... But, considering that Mufuruki was once upon a time on several Committees of the Nation Media Group, and Board Chairman of Mwananchi Communications Ltd... Local broadcasters invariably treat their material as trade secrets, never posting same on the web as a matter of course! But, that’s another story...].

As I was saying before I interrupted myself, Mufuruki does indeed have excellent ideas on how to make the Tanzania shilling strong once again. The measures he proposes may not take the national currency back to the good old days of the Gold Standard, before US President Tricky Dick Nixon played merry Hell with the Bretton Woods’ scheme of things in the early 1970s! That was when a troy ounce of gold fetched Sh252 ($35).

Thus, one US dollar was exchanged for a mere Sh7.20 (above Sh1,750 today!); the pound sterling: Sh20 – before it fell to Sh14 under British Premier Harold Wilson! Mufuruki’s ideas are workable; and yet, they’re so simple and straightforward that one wonders why our development planners and decision-makers continue to trample them underfoot even as the economy uncertainly totters on.

Look at it this way... Doesn’t someone in Govt. and related institutions (such as the central Bank of Tanzania) know that heavy borrowing by the State is counterproductive in the long run? That failure to strictly control foreign currency transactions gives unscrupulous dealers (including commercial banks and bureaux de change) room to engage in currency manipulations and other malpractices?

No wonder Tanzania’s fast becoming the playground for drug dealers, money launderers and speculating tramps. Hasn’t it been said that Tanzania’s one country where an ‘investor’ comes in empty-handed and empty-pocketed, and do a ‘Martha’s Vineyard’ unchecked by turning Tanzania into ‘Shamba la Bibi,’ harvesting at no cost to them where they haven’t sowed? Tanzania needs the likes of Mufuruki in government decision-making. Cheers!

'Sweden can't afford to lose clever immigrants'

Sweden can't afford to keep discriminating against those living in the suburbs and thereby missing out on the payback of years of investment in education and skills,

The story of my group of friends is not unique among those groups of friends raised in a “million homes” area (miljonprogrammet, referring to the one million homes that were built in the 60s and 70s to house Sweden’s increasing population).

We were six, all born in Sweden, or arriving as toddlers. All except myself hold university degrees, and Sweden has thus invested in our healthcare, pre-school, elementary school, high school and university.

Now half of us are gone, emigrated. For a while I was the last one left, but two have returned. The other three will most likely stay outside Sweden’s borders and thus be resources lost to our society.

They are Swedes, but were never viewed as such. At least not in the same way as other Swedes. At least not by others. It led to a complex self image, but above all to the situation that they didn’t get the jobs they, according to all statistics, should have got considering their academic achievements.

We in Sweden have long sought to simplify the higher unemployment rate among immigrated citizens, an issue which has resurfaced after Statistics Sweden’s (Statistiska Centralbyrån - SCB) labour market report for the second quarter that was released recently. I would argue that this is a form of discrimination which has much more to do with where you live than what has been admitted.

In Botkyrka municipality, south of Stockholm, this becomes apparent if you compare the areas Fittja and Tullinge.

The employment rate among women born abroad is 42 percent in Fittja, and for women born in Sweden in the same area it is 52 percent. In Tullinge on the other hand, it is as high as 60 percent for women born abroad, and 72 percent for women born in Sweden.

Be Grateful for All of Life:
With gratitude, all life appears as a blessing - without gratitude, all of life is perceived as a burden. Avoid the tendency to compare your life with the lives of others, with your idealized hopes for life, and with your own life when you were younger. Every moment of your life is a gift -- not something you are "entitled to" or something you "deserve." Practice zero-based gratitude. Zero-based gratitude is being grateful for everything in your life -- grateful that you woke up this morning, grateful that you have enough food to eat, grateful that you can walk and breathe and see.
Know that Life Isn't Supposed to be Fair:
No one is "supposed to" be nice to you or help you. No one is supposed to treat you "fairly." Storms, earthquakes, wars, flu pandemics, and falling boulders are not supposed to avoid you. Be grateful and happy when life goes well, and avoid anger and resentment when life is not "fair."
Avoid Anger, Resentment, and Regret:

Anger, hatred, resentment, and regret help nothing, and are a great cause of unhappiness if you allow them to infect your life. Whatever pain the storms of life ever cause you, anger and resentment can never heal that pain -- and they inflict their own pain - often a far greater pain than the first one. Whatever pain the actions of others cause you, anger, hatred, and revenge solve nothing -- again, the pain of your own anger often surpasses the original pain. Whatever pain you cause yourself by ill-chosen actions, regret solves nothing -- learn a life lesson, forgive yourself, and move on with life.
Forgive Everyone for Everything:

Whatever has caused you pain -- whether nature, others, or yourself -- forgive completely. Until you forgive, the anger you hold will continue to burn. The suffering will never end until you give up the anger and forgive unconditionally.
Keep Active:
If you are feeling depressed and negative, it is crucial for you to keep active. The less you feel like being active, and the more you just want to wallow in self-pity, the more important it is that you get out, interact with positive people, begin projects, and keep active. Until you begin to feel a desire to be active, just fake it -- go through the motions of keeping active until you can generate the positive attitude to drive your activity.
Choose to be Around Positive People:
Positivity is contagious - so is negativity. Choose to spend more time with people who think positively, speak positively, and support your vision, your life purpose, and your projects. Spend less time with people who talk about how hard and unfair life is. Spend less time with people who tell you that your goals are unrealistic and that you are certain to fail.
Be of Service - Help Others:

One of the best ways to appreciate your life and to create a positive attitude is to be of service to those less fortunate than yourself. Being of service reminds you of your blessings, keeps you busy with generous activities, and surrounds you with positive happy people.
Smile:

As with keeping active, smiling is something to do especially when you don't feel like it. Just form your face into a smile, take a deep contented breath, and feel the smile becoming real and your view of life becoming happier and more positive.

Celebrate - Dance - Sing:
Dance to happy music. Sing a happy song. Or just listen to upbeat music. The rhythm of happy music is primal. It works. Try it.

Reports showing that most people in developing countries approve the beating of women is most irritating at a period when gender equity is (or should be) taken for granted.Some 65 per cent of respondents in a recent survey on gender issues agreed that there were times when a woman deserved to be beaten!

That does not only go against the Millennium Development Goal Number 3 which pledges to promote gender equality and empower women by the year 2015; it also goes against human rights.

The widely held view that there are times when a woman deserves a beating is very disturbing. Hitting another person is totally unacceptable: it is primitive, abhorrent and, yes: illegal!

According to the minister for Community Development, Gender and Children, Ms Sophia Simba, in a bid to eradicate this tendency to consider women men’s punching bags, the government is pushing for the implementation of The Child Development Policy of 2008 and the Children Act of 2009 in an effort to improve the welfare of Tanzania's children, regardless of the child’s gender.

That way, it is hoped, there will be changes for the better, as children will be brought up without the social pressures that make men aggressive, while forcing women to accept subjugation.Everybody in society – more so the women themselves – must firmly say No to violence against women in word and deed.

Fauja Singh has astonished the world by running a marathon at the age of 100. The British runner completed the 26.2-mile Toronto Waterfront course in eight hours, 25 minutes and 16 seconds. So how was this feat of age-defying stamina possible.
Most of us would be grateful - and more than a little surprised - to be still breathing at 100. The idea of running a marathon at that age seems like something out of science fiction.
Mr Singh, who came 3,850th, but still finished ahead of five other competitors, puts his success down to not smoking or drinking alcohol, staying positive - and eating ginger curry.
But if that really was all there is to it, the streets would be filled with centenarian athletes and every retirement home would have its own athletics team....

KATIKA hali isiyotarajiwa na wengi, juzikati abiria mmoja ambaye jina lake halikuweza kupatikana mkazi wa jijini Dar es Salaam alilazimika kuendesha daladala baada ya trafiki kumtia nguvuni dereva.
Ilikuwa asubuhi wakati daladala hilo lilipoanza safari yake Kituo cha Gongo la Mboto kwenda Sinza, kondakta wake aliendelea kuita abiria kwa muda mrefu licha gari hilo kuwa ‘nyomi’.
Wakati abiria wakimtaka kondakta huyo kuruhusu gari kuondoka, aliwajibu kwa kebehi kwamba daladala huwa halijai inayojaa ni ndoo ya maji.

Baada ya muda kondakta alimruhusu dereva kuendesha gari, bila kuchelewa lilianza kushika kasi na abiria wakawa na matagemeo ya kuwahi makazini mwao.
Basi hilo lililopofika Kituo cha Mombasa, Ukonga askari wa usalama barabarani aliona jinsi abiria walivyokuwa wakining’inia mlangoni, akalisimamisha.
Askari alimtaka dereva kutoa faini ya shilingili 20,000 lakini suka alisema hakuwa na kiasi hicho kwani ndiyo kwanza walianza kazi.

Dereva: Naomba unisamehe afande nakiri nimefanya kosa, kwani ndiyo kwanza naamka hivyo sina kitu kabisa.
Askari: Kama ulilijua hilo kwa nini unaendesha gari huku abiria wakiwa wananing’inia?

Mabishano yalikuwa marefu na kuwafanya abiria kuanza kupiga kelele za kumtaka dereva kuwapeleka kwani walikuwa wakichelewa kazini.
Baada ya kelele nyingi zisizo na majibu, abiria mmoja aliamua kwenda kukaa kwenye usukani na kuanza kuliendesha daladala ambalo dereva alikuwa ameliacha katika ‘sailensi’.
Abiria waliaanza kushangilia kwa kitendo hicho, dereva alianza kulikimbilia gari hilo na kumuacha askari akiwa ameduwaa asijue la kufanya.

Dereva alikodi pikipiki na kuanza kulifukuzia daladala hilo na kufanikiwa kulikuta kwenye foleni maeneo ya Vingunguti.
Dereva alianza kumfokea abiria aliyekuwa akiliendesha gari hilo bila ruhusa yake lakini abiria walionekana kuwa upande wa abira mwenzao kwa kumshambulia dereva.

Dowans nightmare: What went wrong .

With the issue on whether or not Tanesco should pay Dowans Sh110 billion for breach of contract out of the way, factors that led the Tanzania into the ditch are starting to emerge.Noting that presently there isn’t any chance for the government to evade liability, calls are being made that those responsible for the mess should be taken to task.Tanzania would not have ended up paying billions to Dowans if, right from the beginning, politicians had agreed to step back and listen to advice from technocrats, the chairman of Public Organisations Accounts Committee (POAC), Mr Zitto Kabwe, told this paper yesterday.

“The main source of this problem is politicians within the ruling party who chose to play factional politics and neglect advice from technocrats. If we had listened to former Tanesco Managing Director, Dr Idris Rashid, we wouldn’t be here,” said Mr Kabwe.

The politicians refused to buy the plant at $50 million on grounds that it was against procurement regulations but the same plants have been producing power that Tanesco buys at exorbitant price, and no one is making any noise, he charged.

“Anti-Dowans forces were self-centred and misused their support by Tanzanians and instead of providing leadership, they chose populism and personal vendetta,” he said.Mr Kabwe, who is also a shadow minister for Finance, also further said that it was not wise to cancel the Dowans contract with only five months to go.

He said the Wednesday decision, in which the High Court threw out the Tanesco petition and registered the International Commercial Court’s verdict requiring the firm to pay Dowans more than Sh110 billion for breach of contract, was indication that the country now has to bear the burden of paying.

Despite the fact that several government officials, including the minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Mustafa Mkulo, have made it public that the Treasury has no money to pay the compensation, commentators who spoke yesterday said that the government would nevertheless pay the money, which is “an insult to the country.”

For his part, Energy and Minerals minister William Ngeleja, who addressed a press conference on Mtwara-Dar es Salaam pipeline project in the city yesterday, declined to comment on the Dowans ruling.

CUF national chairman, Prof Ibrahim Lipumba, said the Dowans saga was enough to open up people’s eyes that there is a leadership vacuum under the ruling CCM. “It is sad that we are supposed to pay this money at a time when the government has been lamenting that it hasn’t enough money to even finance its Budget,” said Prof Ibrahim Lipumba, the CUF national chairman.

Prof Lipumba suggested that because those who have caused the loss were known, they should be made to account for the mess, wherever they were. “We have a big leadership vacuum in this country, and the Dowans issue is just one example manifesting how the ruling party has failed to run this country in a more focused way,” said Prof Lipumba, noting that there would never be seriousness if no action were taken against those who landed the nation in the current mess.

He added: “This is what you get when you have a bad governing system sparked by corruption and favouritisms … Tanzania will never achieve anything until CCM is removed from power.”
The CUF chairman said Tanesco was supposed to sue Richmond after it failed to implement the agreement as well as after it transferred its contract to Dowans, which was against the agreement.

Prof Lipumba also said there was no logic in appealing the ICC ruling especially after the Attorney general said categorically there were no grounds for appeal.

A prominent lawyer who led other activists in filing a petition against the payment, Dr Sengondo Mvungi, said the payment of the compensation would be an approval of graft within the government.

We are just emerging from national mourning following the loss of 203 people, going by latest figures, who perished at sea as their vessel capsized while sailing to Pemba from Zanzibar.

As we come to terms with this tragedy, a number of questions emerge. Although people hardly compare frequency of accidents through the time tunnel, those who have been around over the last forty years would agree that the frequency of accidents in this country is alarmingly escalating. Hardly a week passes without news of a horrific road accident somewhere!

In the heels of the Zanzibar tragedy, there was a fatal accident at Chalinze on the central highway in which ten people died. Morogoro road, which cuts across the country, is most notorious in the record of accidents, but it is not the only one.

Of course sea accidents are rare and for obvious reasons. Less people travel by sea than by road but that does not imply that sea travel in this country is any safer. We had almost a similar accident compared to the Zanzibar accident more than a decade ago when a relatively big passenger ship, MV Bukoba went under.

Because these happenings are described as “accidents” most of us leave them at that. We desist from taking a hard look or asking hard questions because of the repulsive word itself – an accident! But if we have to go through the time tunnel, why that accidents are alarmingly high today than in the past?

From news reports, the small boat that capsized on Zanzibar was overloaded, with 3,000 people, far beyond its capacity. Why was it left to sail out in that condition? Aren’t there regulatory authorities to ensure vessel standards are maintained? Of course one can pose other secondary questions.

Just take a hard look around yourself as you commute into the city bus or you drive around your car. Total absolute chaos and lawlessness, isn’t it?

Who seriously checks on passenger buses about to depart for upcountry towns, in terms of the health of tires and so forth?

Look at the recklessness in speeding and overtaking along the roads of Dar es Salaam.

The other day, driving my car, as I negotiated a junction without street lights or robots [having said my prayer quietly before taking the plunge!] and having satisfied myself that I can proceed, I was shocked to see that my car was hit on the sideway by someone who had considered himself smarter than me who overtook me from my left, at high speed at a road junction!

As I drove right behind, I pursue my attacker in a pick up. I asked him: Do you have to overtake vehicles this way, on high speed and at a junction? The guy pretended not to have heard the question! Furious, I decided to proceed on since my car was slightly damaged.

This is the world we live in these days and you, the reader, must have been subjected to even worse episodes.
In Dar es Salaam these days, the people to watch are the bus drivers or ‘daladala’ and our new form of taxis:motorcycles.

It is living hell! You must be shaking your head in agreement. Are these chaps properly schooled on how to use roads? Most often one sees them with more than one passenger on one motorcycle and some even carrying mothers with infants on their backs! Who cares? Who stops them?

Someone once told me that to know a country you are visiting, just look at the behaviour of people on the roads. You will know exactly the level of the country you have landed on. The way people drive their cars; buses and so forth will translate for you the level of governance and civility in that given country.

To me, the translation I make of that overloaded boat or ship that was flagged off to sail without checks or a bus that is allowed on the road with worn out tires, my reading of that situation is, it is MONEY that speaks in that country. Simple! Everything else is an excuse – money speaks!

Secondary to this reading of mine is that there are people in our society who are untouchable. They are rich. Therefore, they have the temerity to put law-enforcing officers in their pockets. These officers look away when there is an obvious breach of norms!

Once upon a time, there was an order for upcountry buses to have ‘speed-governors’ gadgets on the engines to check over speeding. I used to muse then that it is not the buses that require speed-governors, it is those guys themselves driving those buses who must be ‘hooked’ to speed-governors! Looking around, it is difficult to understand this quest for speeding and overtaking amid heavy traffic jams in the city of Dar es Salaam. But it is happening.

This phenomenon, coupled with a market force social economic order in place seem to have brought in its wake the law of the jungle, survival of the fittest; with the moneyed calling the shots.

We need to do something urgently as a people. Otherwise, we are finished. The Zanzibar tragedy will not be an exception.

TUMEAMBIWA na kukubali kutokana na imani zetu na uzoefu tulioupata katika maisha kuwa ajali haina kinga. Inapotokea ajali imekuwa kawaida kujiliwaza kwa kusema huo ni mtihani na kazi ya Mwenyezi Mungu na kuambizana tuvute subira.

Lakini ni vyema tukakumbuka kwamba tumeambiwa: “Tahadhari kabla ya hatari”. Usemi huu unakusudia kusisitiza umuhimu wa kuchukua hadhari, yaani kinga.

Ajali ni ajali, lakini nyingine siyo tu zinasikitisha, bali zinashtua, kutisha na kuzusha maswali mengi zinapotokea. Hivi sasa nchi yetu imo katika msiba mkubwa baada ya kupinduka na kuzama meli ya Spice katika mkondo wa Nungwi, katikati ya Visiwa vya Unguja na Pemba.

Zaidi ya watu 200 wamepoteza maisha na waliookolewa, idadi yao kwa mujibu wa taarifa rasmi za Serikali ya Mapinduzi ya Zanzibar (SMZ) ni 619. Hata hivyo, bado kuna idadi kubwa ya watu ambao hawajulikani waliko na inasadikiwa kuwa baadhi yao wamenasa ndani ya meli hiyo.

Taarifa za awali kutoka serikalini zilisema idadi ya abiria waliokuwamo melini ni 600, lakini ukweli uliothibitishwa na taarifa ya SMZ kupitia kwa Waziri wa Nchi, Ofisi ya Makamu wa Pili wa Rais, Mohamed Aboud Mohamed ni kwamba hadi jana, ilikuwa imethibitika ilikuwa na watu 816.

Idadi hii inaweza kuongezeka ikiwa maiti zaidi watapatikana au watu wengine walionusurika kujitokeza. Watu waliookolewa wamesema meli ilisheheni abiria kupita kiasi, mbali ya mzigo mkubwa wa mchele, sukari, magodoro na bidhaa nyingine.

Hili linaonyesha wazi kuwepo kwa uzembe wa aina fulani. Uzembe huu si mwingine, bali ni kitendo cha wahusika kuruhusu meli kuondoka Zanzibar huku ikiwa na abiria wengi na mzigo kubwa kuliko uwezo wake.

Zipo taarifa kwamba abiria walilalamika kwamba meli imesheheni kupita uwezo wake, lakini hawakusikilizwa, kauli zao zilipuuzwa na wahusika hao katika Bandari ya Zanzibar. Hapa inaonyesha kutokuwapo ukaguzi na usimamizi mzuri wa usalama wa abiria katika bandari hiyo.

Yapo maswali ya kujiuliza ambayo pengine Watanzania wanahitaji majibu ya kuridhisha. Inakuwaje meli ya abiria 600 ichukue watu 819? Inakuwaje meli hiyo iwe na maboya 200 yasiyofikia hata robo ya idadi ya abiria waliokuwamo katika meli hiyo?

Huu ni uthibitisho kwamba hata ukaguzi katika meli kubaini usalama wake kwa abiria huwa haufanyiki na kama unafanywa, basi huwa ni kutimiza wajibu tu usio na tija kwa watumiaji wa vyombo hivi vya majini.

Kwa wanaofahamu jinsi vyombo vya usafiri wa majini vinavyofanya kazi kati Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, Pemba na Tanga wanasema yapo matatizo mengine mengi. Mathalan, wanasema ni kawaida kusikia meli imesimama katika bahari kuu kutokana na kuishiwa mafuta.

Katika hali hii meli au boti hulazimika kutia nanga kwa saa kadhaa zikingojea kupelekewa mafuta kwenye mapipa kutoka katika bandari ambayo huwa karibu zaidi na eneo nanga ilikowekwa.

Mbali na hilo meli hizi hazifuati ratiba na wakati mwingine abiria huwasubiri wana familia wenye meli wafike bandarini hata kama kufanya hivyo ni kuwachelewesha wengine. Maelezo pekee yanayopatikana hapa ni maisha ya watu kutothaminiwa.

Tuonavyo huku ni kutojali au kutothamini maisha ya watumiaji wa vyombo vya majini. Kutokana na hali hiyo, tunaunga mkono hatua za SMZ kama alivyosema Aboud kwamba uchunguzi utafanywa na watakaobainika kuhusika na uzembe huo watachukuliwa hatua kali za kisheria.

Ni lazima tubadilike sasa. Hatua za uwajibikaji na za kisheria zichukuliwe kwa watakaobainika kuhusika. Wamiliki wa meli, nahodha na mabaharia wake, maofisa wa bandari na wote walioruhusu meli hiyo kufanya safari ikiwa haina usalama.

Lakini pia tabia hii ya Serikali kusubiri maafa makubwa tena yanayosababisha vifo vya watu wengi kiasi hiki ndipo ichukue hatua, haikubaliki. Hapa Serikali zote mbili, yaani SMZ na Serikali ya Jamhuri ya Muungano haziwezi kukwepa kubeba mzigo.

Ikumbukwe kwamba maisha ya mtu yakishapotea, hayawezi kurejeshwa kwa uchunguzi wala hatua zitakazochukuliwa dhidi ya wahusika. Tubadilike. Tuache kuoneana muhali na kulindana kwa uzembe.

Lazima uwepo mfumo wa kiutendaji serikalini ambao utaiwezesha kusimamia taasisi zilizo chini yake kama Mamlaka za Bandari na nyinginezo ili kuepusha idadi kubwa ya vifo kama ilivyotokea Tanzania Zanzibar.

Alcohol Consumption May Help Women Age Better.

A new study on alcohol consumption and aging suggest a new mantra: A glass of wine a day keeps dementia away!

After analyzing nearly 14,000 responses to the Nurses’ Health Study — one of the largest ongoing women’s health studies in the U.S. — Harvard researchers found 58-year-old women who drink 1 alcoholic beverage a day had a 20% better chance of “successful aging” compared to those who didn't.

"Successful aging” was defined as making it to the age of 70 with good cognitive function, no major chronic diseases, no physical limitations and good overall mental health.

“If you just focus on one aspect of health, that’s very misleading. What we are looking at is very comprehensive. For women who have one drink per day — equivalent to one can of beer, one shot of liquor or one glass of wine — that is associated with an increased chance of achieving successful aging, which means multiple aspects of health.”

Researchers found that the results were even more positive when women spread the amount of alcohol ingested throughout the week (one glass a day for 5 days), so don't use this as an excuse for binge drinking yourself silly, ladies!

Why we were wrong about Gaddafi .

Libya’s strongman Muammar Gaddafi is still issuing threats and threatening to fight to the end, but surely it is over for the dictator.Rebels who have been battling Gaddafi’s 42-year rule now control over 90 per cent of the capital Tripoli, and overrun his heavily fortified Bab al-Aziziya headquarters on Tuesday.
Gaddafi has not been seen in public since May, and was reduced to being an audio president.
Gaddafi bankrolled several African presidents from the smaller and poor countries; invested his country’s oil billions in several economic projects all over the continent; and splashed even more of it on his plan for a United States of Africa.
Now that he is about to be history, questions are being asked whether the new Libyan government will keep up his big Pan-African project.
Indeed ever since the wave of “Arab Uprising” revolts ousted Tunisia’s Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali in January and Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak a month later, the relationship between the mainly Arab North of Africa and its “Sub-Sahara” southern part have gained prominence.
One issue that has been discussed more than the rest is whether the North African uprisings can happen with the same result in Sub-Sahara Africa.
To begin with Gaddafi’s United States of Africa project, it is impossible to see that the government that succeeds him will invest as much money and time into it as the colonel did.
However, that might be a good thing. Gaddafi’s first mistake was to think that he could buy African integration.
His second one was to be oblivious to the egos of his fellow African presidents. He treated them like they were children, and tried to bully them into buying into his timetable for the formation of the United States of Africa.
The result is that the presidents who most supported the idea, like Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni, baulked partly because they thought Gaddafi was being disrespectful.
If the new government shuts up about the United States of Africa, or goes about it with a whisper, it is more likely to make progress than Gaddafi. You can say, then, that Gaddafi’s departure could be a boon for African unity. But even without that, what has happened in Libya, Tunisia and Egypt has shifted the narrative about African politics in a progressive direction.
The division of Africa between the Arab North and Sub-Sahara Africa is a myth that found realty in fact much later.

Thus the Arab North was supposed to be a region of fanatic Islamic fundamentals who would chop off the heads of the infidels in the rest of Africa at the first chance.
However, the uprisings there have been led by largely secular forces.
Secondly, most discussions about democracy in Africa always excluded the Arab North as a matter of course, because it was assumed that Arabs were incapable of democracy. That the rulers could never grant it, nor did the people want it enough to fight for it.
Now we know that that is not true. African Arabs want democracy, and are willing to die for it, as much as African Africans (does something like that exist?).
My sense, then, is that the events of the last seven months in Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya have demonstrated more similiarities than differences between Arab Africa and Sub-Sahara Africa. What is happening in Libya today, first happened in Africa in 1986 when the National Resistance Army rebels led by Museveni seized power in Uganda. The Arabs, in that sense, arrived 24 years late at the party.
I see a possible new pattern. If the Egyptians, Tunisians, and Libyans don’t revolutionary spirit and manage to establish relatively free and democratic societies, a new division will emerge in Africa.
We shall have the a new map in which the most democratic and wealthy nations in Africa are the bottom of the continent (South Africa, Botswana, Mauritius, Cape Verde, Zambia), and its tip (Tunisia, Egypt. Libya).
The poor and repressive ones will be clustered in the middle. Sub-Sahara Africa as a political and economic concept will make less sense, and new classifications will have to be found.
The North African revolts tell us that Africans want the same things, and have a common view of politics. I was one of those who early in the year asked whether the Arab revolt could spread to the rest of Africa. I was mistaken. I asked the wrong question.

Soon, medical marijuana could be available on prescription in Sweden. This since the Swedish Medical Products Agency (MPA) is close to approve a breath spray with marijuana substance in.

The spray is for MS patients and is to relieve from muscle pain, according to public radio SR.

Since earlier is the medicine available in several other European countries.

According to Hans Sjögren, clinical investigator at the MPA, patient will not get any drug-like high out of the drug.

The new reality show "Growing Up African" which premiered in East Africa on March 24th, 2011 is now available online. Through the support of the blogging community the show which started off last December is under a two year agreement with East Africa Television.

Mkwawa aliongoza mapigano dhidi ya wakoloni wa Kijerumani kwa karibu miaka minane. Mwaka 1891 majeshi yake yalifanikiwa kumuua kamanda wa majeshi ya kikoloni von Zelewski, na wanaosafiri Iringa wanaweza kuliona kaburi lake pembeni ya barabara ya Dar es salaam kwenda Iringa, kama kilometa 40 kutoka Iringa mjini. Wenyeji wa Iringa wanalitambua kaburi hilo kama la Nyundo.

Lakini Wajerumani waliongeza nguvu na kuelekea mwisho wa utawala wa Mkwawa. Wajerumani walijenga kambi katika eneo la sasa la Tosamanganga, mwinuko wa Lugulu, na kutumia mizinga kutupa mabomu kwenye ngome ya Lipuli - yaani Kalenga.

Hatimaye walifanikiwa na hivyo kumfanya Mtwa Mkwawa atoroke, akawa amepoteza ngome yake, akaendesha vita vya msituni huku akiwapatia askari wa Kijerumani hasara kubwa sana katika mtindo huu wa kupigana kwa kushitukiza.

Aidha wananchi walimpenda sana Mkwawa kwa hiyo haikuwa rahisi kutambua yuko wapi, ingawa kuna maelezo kutoka kwa wahifadhi katika Makumbusho ya Mkwawa pale Kalenga, kuwa kuna mmoja wa ndugu zake waliobadilika kuwa Wakristo alitumika kumpeleleza, ingawa yeye mwenyewe alikataa kuwa hakuwa kibaraka wa Wazungu, na akaamua kwenda kukaa mbali kidogo na Kalenga. Alifia huko na kumbukumbu yake iko huko.

Lakini Wajerumani, kutokana na baadhi ya maandishi, waliendela kumtafuta na hatimaye kufanikiwa kumzingira. Lakini yeye alifanikiwa kutoroka na kuelekea eneo linaloitwa Mlambalasi, akiwa na walinzi wake wawili.

Lakini alishatambua kuwa uwezo wake wa kuendelea na vita umekwisha kwani walikuwa wamezingirwa na askari wake wengi kuuawa.

Ndipo alipokuwa hapo Mlambalasi, aliamuru askari wake wakoke moto mkubwa wa kuni na kumtuma mwingine akaongeze kuni. Lakini wale askari walitambua kuwa hiyo ilikuwa ni ishara ya kutaka kujiua.

Yule askari aliyetumwa, kwa maelezo niliyoyapata, alipofika mbali kidogo, alisikia milio miwili ya bunduki iliyofyatuliwa. Alihisi mlio wa kwanza ulikuwa wa Mkwawa kumuua askari mlinzi aliyebaki, na wa pili, ulikuwa wa kujiua mwenyewe. Aliporudi alikuta Mkwawa amekufa.

Hapa kuna maelezo yanayotatanisha. Baadhi wanasema kwa kukataa asitambuliwe na wakoloni baada ya kifo chake, alipojiua alikaa katika hali ya kuangukia kwenye moto ili aungue na asitambulike. Na kuwa askari wa kijerumani aliyefika alipoonyeshwa mwili wa Mtwa Mkwawa aliamua kumpiga risasi kichwani.

Lakini maelezo mengine ambayo ndiyo yanayofahamika zaidi yanasema kuwa Mtwa Mkwawa alipokufa hakuangukia motoni. Hata hivyo utafiti wangu wa intaneti nilifikishwa mahali penye orodha ya picha zinazomhusu Mtwa Mkwawa, moja ni ya fuvu, lakini ya pili ni ya mwili wa mtu ambaye mgongoni anaonekana kuwa na jeraha kubwa sana linalofanana na kuungua moto.

Sikuwa na namna ya kuthibitisha kuwa mwili huo ndio wa Mtwa Mkwawa uliongua moto baada ya kujiua? Na kwa nini uliwekwa pamoja na picha ya fuvu lake na mnara wa mahali alipojiua.

Ukifika Kalenga na kwenye makumbusho yake ukaulizia eneo la Mlambalasi ni wazi utapata watu wa kukuongoza na hadi kwenye kaburi na mnara mahali alipojiua. Mnara huu ni kumbukumbu ya ushujaa wake. Na kama tulivyowahi kusema awali kuwa taarifa za Mtwa Mkwawa zinahitaji kufanyiwa utafiti wa kina na kuwatafuta wataalamu wa Historia na mambo ya kale kutusaidia kufahamu nini hasa kilitokea.

Aidha kuna familia za ukoo wa Mkwawa kule Kalenga ambazo zinatunza historia na mengine yanayomhusu Mkwawa. Huenda hao wanaweza kutusaidia kutoa taarifa.Eneo la Kalenga pamoja na kuwa na historia kubwa bado ni sehemu ya kivutio cha utalii ambacho kama kitatangazwa hapana shaka kitafungua fursa za kiuchumi kwa wakazi wa eneo hilo na pato kwa nchi.
